Thoughtful Design for Calm and Nostalgia
Amrit Bhawan is a sanctuary of calm and nostalgia, a 54-year-old restored space with a private Ganga ghat—loved by a family for three generations.
Design details such as terrazzo floors that glisten under the soft morning light are paired with charming vintage furniture. Kartal (traditional kirtan instruments) and khadave (traditional Indian wooden sliders) are used as decor reflecting India's heritage.
Family photographs from the past, traditional art prints and coffee table books are prepped throughout the space, creating an environment that feels like it was designed for nostalgia and inspiration.
Our room had such soft hues and calming details, making for a cosy, relaxing space.
The entire space is lush and green, with multiple nooks to just be and unwind.
A Private Ghat
The access to the private Ganga ghat, where you can immerse yourself in the spiritual energy of the Ganga, is the highlight of Amrit Bhawan.
I did my yoga practice at dawn with the sun rising over the sounds of the river on the deck by the ghat — you can even request a personalised session with a teacher.
Come dusk, the daily Aarti (prayers) felt like a pious sound healing session, far from the bustling public ghats. With the river's rhythmic flow as the backdrop, it was a deeply personal experience for me.
“Both experiences strengthened my intimate connection with the divine.”
Culinary Journeys of Uttarakhand
Meals at Amrit Bhawan are a sensory journey.
You can experience Haridwar’s culinary delight at Amrit Bhawan itself — because the most-loved food, curated from the city’s local spots, is brought straight to you; and that doesn’t happen anywhere else.
In addition, delights such as Pahadi Pisyoo Namak (made with micronutrient-rich rock salt, ground with herbs and spices on a sil-batta) and Panjiri Granolas from the Naashta Shop pair with an array of breakfast dishes.
My favourite was the Manjhuli— a traditional Uttarakhandi drink made with curd, water and jakhiya seeds, which I sipped throughout the day.
Lunch and dinner are rich, earthy pahadi flavours — like a lavish Uttarakhandi or Nepali Thali. Post-dinner, we returned to the ghat for moments of calm.
Moments of Slowness at Your Own Pace
Amrit Bhawan encourages the art of doing nothing — afternoons here are made for naps, swinging on a wooden jhula, and just being by the Ganga.
If you feel inspired, you can explore Haridwar's lanes on a walking tour guided by Ekat Living, discovering the city's soul.
"The space and experiences gently guide you into slowing down—inviting you to take in the beauty around you and reconnect with your inner calm."
Unforgettable Hospitality
The staff at Amrit Bhawan are its beating heart. Warm, attentive, and thoughtful, they ensure every interaction, meal, and request is met with care and attention to detail, making our stay one of the sweetest memories.
A Place for Everyone
Amrit Bhawan offers a rare gift in the fast-paced modern world—the space to just be.
What will you take home from Amrit Bhawan? Beyond the serene beauty and rich heritage,
"at Amrit Bhawan, you discover the richness of stillness—time slows, and with each quiet moment, you rediscover your connection with yourself. The quietness you find here, looking at Ganga, will remain within you as a reminder to carry that calm into the rush of everyday life long after you've left."
